OUR ACCOMMODATION

An Taigh Soilleir (The Bright House), a spacious and sunlit traditional croft bungalow situated in the picturesque Isle of South Uist in the Outer Hebrides. Fully refurbished and modernised, our inviting accommodation offers three well-appointed double bedrooms, two of which feature en-suite wet rooms, providing comfort and privacy for up to six guests.

 

Designed to capture an abundance of natural light, An Taigh Soilleir (The Bright House) showcases an inviting open-concept dining and living area, perfect for gathering with loved ones. The generously-sized kitchen is fully equipped, ensuring a seamless self-catering experience whilst offering stunning views of the South Uist hills. Additional amenities include two cosy lounges, one of which contains a large sofa bed that can accommodate an additional two guests, bringing the total capacity to eight.

 

The pristine bathroom and underfloor heating that extends across the entire house add to the comfort of your stay. From the dining room and main lounge, enjoy the breathtaking views to the north, overlooking the croft across the ford to Benbecula and North Uist. The first bedroom features a luxurious king-size double bed, adorned with a solid oak frame, providing an elegant and restful space for guests. The room is equipped with a spacious wardrobe and a pair of bedside cabinets, each fitted with a lamp for your convenience.

A large north-facing window offers serene views of the South Ford, creating a tranquil environment for relaxation. The en-suite wet room boasts a contemporary design, complete with a power shower, wash hand basin, and toilet. Fresh towels are provided for your stay, ensuring a comfortable experience.

The soothing light grey walls and vibrant red accents create a calming yet invigorating ambiance, perfect for unwinding and recharging after a day of exploration. The underfloor heating ensures a cosy atmosphere in this inviting room

A sizeable east-facing window provides captivating views of a working croft, where sheep roam and springtime brings an abundance of playful lambs. From this vantage point, guests can also enjoy the beautiful sunrise each morning. The en-suite wet room, featuring a contemporary design, comes equipped with a power shower, wash hand basin, and toilet. Fresh towels are supplied for your stay, ensuring your utmost comfort.

Step into the welcoming atmosphere of the third bedroom, thoughtfully furnished with a solid oak double bed, a bedside cabinet with a lamp, and a fitted wardrobe, offering both comfort and functionality.

 

This charming room enjoys a beautiful south-facing view of the South Uist hills, allowing the morning sun to flood the space with warm, natural light. The underfloor heating ensures a cosy and comfortable ambiance, perfect for relaxation after a day of exploration.

Adding a touch of local charm, the walls are adorned with beautiful scenes of the neighbouring island of North Uist. This delightful bedroom is the ideal retreat for your stay on the Isle of South

 

 

Our Living Spaces

The Living Room

The living room at An Taigh Soilleir (The Bright House) is one of our favourite spaces, designed to provide comfort and relaxation for our guests. Featuring solid oak furniture, and complemented by a comfortable leather sofa and armchair, this room invites you to sit back and unwind.

From the living room, take in the breathtaking views extending northward up the croft to the South Ford and beyond to Benbecula and North Uist. These picturesque vistas are sure to captivate and inspire.

Adorning the walls, you’ll find original artwork and prints by May Byrne, adding a touch of local culture and creativity to the space. For your entertainment, a replica Lewis Chessmen chessboard is available for a friendly game. The Lewis Chessmen are a group of 12th-century chess pieces discovered on the Isle of Lewis in the Outer Hebrides. The majority of the original pieces are exhibited at the British Museum in London, with a smaller collection displayed at the National Museum of Scotland in Edinburgh.

A 42″ smart TV, DVD player, and an extensive DVD collection ensure there’s something for everyone to enjoy during their stay.

The open-plan dining room at An Taigh Soilleir (The Bright House) seamlessly connects the spacious kitchen to the living room, creating a welcoming and sociable atmosphere for guests. Large patio doors frame the beautiful view northward up the croft, where you can watch lambs frolicking in the springtime.

The solid oak dining table, accompanied by six comfortable chairs, offers an inviting setting for memorable meals with family and friends. As a nod to the local heritage, the walls are adorned with captivating photographs of the remote and stunning archipelago of St Kilda, offering a glimpse into the area’s unique history.

The Kitchen

Prepare delicious meals in the large, beautifully fitted kitchen at An Taigh Soilleir (The Bright House), while enjoying stunning views of the South Uist hills. The kitchen is well-equipped with modern appliances and plenty of cupboard space and storage to make your culinary experience seamless and enjoyable.

Facilities in the kitchen include an oven and grill, microwave, dishwasher, fridge, air fryer, and slow cooker.

Adjacent to the kitchen, the utility area offers additional convenience for guests. This space features a washing machine, an airing cupboard for drying clothes, a toilet, an additional fridge, and a freezer.

The Upstairs Lounge

The upstairs lounge at An Taigh Soilleir (The Bright House) serves as a versatile space, accommodating additional guests with a comfortable double sofa bed, while offering spectacular views of the stunning South Uist hills. Keep an eye out for eagles soaring above, often spotted from the window of this room.

This cosy area features a TV and DVD player, perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring the Outer Hebrides. The adjacent study area is stocked with a variety of books, board games, and puzzles, providing entertainment for all ages. Equipped with a desk, monitor, and PC, it’s an ideal spot for those needing to catch up on work remotely.
